Cook the Beef:

  • In a large skillet, cook ground beef and chopped onion over medium heat until browned. Drain excess grease. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.

Prepare the Special Sauce:

  • In a bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, ketchup, relish, mustard, and vinegar until creamy. Stir half of the sauce into the cooked beef mixture and reserve the rest for topping.

Assemble the Casserole:

  • Spread the beef mixture evenly into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over the top, then arrange frozen tater tots in a single layer to cover the surface.

Bake:

  • Bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 25–30 minutes, or until tater tots are crisp and golden brown.

Add Toppings & Serve:

  • Let the casserole cool slightly. Top with shredded lettuce, chopped pickles, and a drizzle of the remaining sauce. Garnish with sesame seeds if desired and serve warm.
