Instructions

Prepare the Patties

  • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
  • Mix gently until just combined.
  • Form into 4 oval-shaped patties.

Sear the Patties

  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat with a little oil.
  • Cook patties for 3–4 minutes per side until browned.
  • Remove from skillet and set aside.

Cook the Onion and Mushrooms

  • In the same skillet, melt butter.
  • Add sliced onions and mushrooms.
  • Cook until softened and slightly caramelized.

Make the Gravy

  • Sprinkle flour over the onions and stir well.
  • Slowly pour in beef broth while stirring to avoid lumps.
  • Add Worcestershire sauce and simmer until thickened.

Simmer the Patties

  • Return the patties to the skillet.
  • Spoon gravy over them.
  • Cover and simmer for 10–15 minutes until fully cooked.

Serve

  • Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
  • Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or vegetables.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the beef to keep patties tender.
  • Use pan drippings for the best flavor in the gravy.
  • If gravy becomes too thick, add a splash of broth.
  • For a richer version, add a little cream to the gravy.
